Premade Rubber Skin for Dog Walk for Agility Competition
- Choose AAC or CKC specs (we'll do a different size of the yellow contact zone, but the overall cost is the same because the OVERALL obstacle size is the same)
- Skin comes in a roll like a carpet
- QUALITY RUBBER: Not all rubber granules are created equal. Different suppliers have granules that vary in size, quality, and amount of dust. These skins are made from 1-4mm TPV granules from American Recycling.
http://www.americanrecycling.com/products/premium-rubber-granules/tpv/ They're known for their color consistency, resiliency, and high UV stability, and also for being 98% dust-free because of the high standards they require in their packaging. They are safe for use in human playground surfaces and they are commonly used to create impact-absorbing rubberized sports surfaces like tracks for track and field. This rubber meets to AAC, AKC, ASCA, CKC, CPE, NADAC, UKC, UKI, and USDAA requirements.
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED WITH PRODUCT. Here's a summary: PREPARING YOUR CONTACTS FOR RUBBER In order for rubber and adhesive to stick to your contact equipment, it’s CRITICALLY IMPORTANT to prepare the surface properly. To attach a skin to your contact, you'll need to remove any old surface, down to bare wood if possible. If you don’t prepare the surface, the rubber and adhesive will not stick and the result will not be safe to run dogs over. There would be no good way to fix this situation and you’d have to start over by preparing the surface for new product. Clean and dry the contact surface e.g. if it's covered in mud, wash it with dish soap and water, and then let it air dry fully. This is important because dirt and oils would interfere with the glue and it would not adhere properly. If the deck of your equipment is aluminum, the aluminum deck MUST be powdercoated before rubber application. Rubber will not stick to bare aluminum. HOW TO APPLY RUBBER Application may take 1 hour prep time + 24 hours drying time. Glue and tools NOT included. You'll need to buy: 1) Contact cement 1 gallon e.g. Lepage Heavy Duty solvent based adhesive from Home Depot. Please note the low odour water based contact cement does not work and it comes loose. Follow instructions on can for precise application. 2) Latex Stir stick 3) 2-6 inch foam roller 4) Drop cloth 5) Paper towels for clean-up 6) Rolling pin 7) Utility knife or box cutter 8) Straight edge 9) Plastic spring clamps Apply using Nitrile gloves to prevent allergies. Apply in a well ventilated area. Let dry for a few days inside and keep it dry throughout the application process. Place the skin over the entire contact, without applying glue, to check for fit, centering and alignment. Apply 2 spring clamps. Apply first coat of glue, wait 30 minutes to dry. Then apply second coat. Wait 15-20 minutes and test if ready by pressing a small piece of paper. If glue doesn't come off, it's ready to apply skin to teeter. Slowly roll the skin into position so it's flat without wrinkles. After glued, wait 1 hour minimum to 24 hours for best results before using the contact for training. The last step is to trim edges to fit your equipment perfectly. SUPPORT If you have any questions, email webmaster@HuntersHeart.com and we'll do our best to help.
